Carta Porte

The Carta Porte is the complement of the CFDI, Mexico's electronic invoice, that adds the goods being moved, their points of origin, stopovers and destination, and the means of transport, whether by road, rail, air or sea.

The current version is 3.1. According to the SAT’s complement page, accessed October 17, 2026, it was published on June 17, 2024 and has been in use since July 17, 2024; for foreign trade operations, the invoice with the Carta Porte has been enforceable since January 1, 2024. The SAT, Mexico’s tax administration, publishes a filling guide for each means of transport: road, sea, air and rail.

The SAT’s procedure page lists who must issue it:

  • anyone moving goods within Mexico, whether they provide transport services or simply move their own goods;
  • anyone moving hydrocarbons, petroleum products or medicines;
  • residents, and foreigners with a permanent establishment in Mexico, who cross customs with goods;
  • in road transport, vehicles exceeding the weight and dimensions of a C2 truck, and trips of more than 30 km on federal-jurisdiction road segments.

Odoo 20 issues it for road transport, as a transfer-type CFDI created from the delivery order or the receipt, with the electronic delivery guide module; the vehicle and driver data it requires are in the Mexican localization guide.
