Odoo for agribusiness

In agribusiness, the real cost of each hectare and the traceability a foreign buyer asks for are pieced together by hand, after the season is over.

An agribusiness runs on the season: it buys inputs in advance, hires people by the week, harvests, packs and often exports, all within a few months, whether it is a grower, a packing house or an exporter. For an operation in Mexico, an export invoice is a CFDI, the country’s electronic invoice, and a definitive export adds an external trade complement to it. Odoo 20 covers what the operation shares with any company: purchasing, lot-tracked inventory, sales, exports, payroll and accounting.

What we solve in the operation

  1. The traceability the buyer asks for

A foreign customer asks for the traceability of a shipment, and rebuilding it, which lot it came from, which supplier delivered it and when it was received, takes days of paperwork.

    How Odoo solves it

Odoo 20 Inventory follows every lot from the moment it comes in until it leaves, with its expiry date, and its traceability report shows upstream where it came from and downstream who received it. With GS1 nomenclature, a single barcode carries the product, the lot and the expiry date.

    Modules

    • Inventory
    • Barcode
  2. The export invoice put together by hand

Every export invoice carries a tariff code, an Incoterm and an exchange rate, and keying them in shipment by shipment is where the errors creep in.

    How Odoo solves it

Odoo 20's Mexican localization adds the external trade complement that Mexican export CFDIs (electronic invoices) carry: the tariff code and the customs unit of measure live on the product, the Incoterm is chosen on the invoice and the exchange rate is updated from Banco de México.

    Modules

    • Accounting
    • Sales
    • Inventory
  3. The cost per hectare that arrives after the season closes

What it cost to produce each farm, each plot or each crop cycle is worked out at the end, when it can no longer inform what to plant or at what price to sell.

    How Odoo solves it

In Odoo 20, analytic accounting tags every input purchase, expense and invoice with its farm, its plot or its cycle, and with several analytic plans a single expense is split by percentage across dimensions. The cost of each one can be checked while the season is still open and compared with its budget, with what is committed and what is spent.

    Modules

    • Accounting
    • Purchase
    • Expenses
  4. Seasonal payroll

At harvest the workforce grows week by week, and registering each person, calculating their pay and stamping their payslips becomes the bottleneck of every pay run.

    How Odoo solves it

Odoo 20's Mexican payroll handles seasonal contracts and hourly wages, computes the contributions to IMSS, Mexico's social security institute, and the INFONAVIT and FONACOT credits, and processes payslips in batches by pay schedule, weekly, biweekly or monthly, to stamp them as payroll CFDIs.

    Modules

    • Payroll
    • Employees
  5. The shipment that leaves without its Carta Porte

Fruit or inputs travel to the packing house, the collection center or the border, and the Carta Porte, Mexico's electronic bill of lading, is issued in another system, if at all.

    How Odoo solves it

Odoo 20's electronic delivery guide issues the Carta Porte 3.1 from the delivery or the receipt, for road transport, with the vehicle registered in Fleet and its driver as the operator; for an export it adds the customs regime and the customs document of the shipment.

    Modules

    • Inventory
    • Fleet
    • Sales
  6. The new lot that ships before the old one

The fruit or input that arrived later gets shipped, and the earlier lot spoils in the cold room or the warehouse.

    How Odoo solves it

With the FEFO strategy, Odoo 20 reserves first the lot that expires earliest, stops reserving the one already past its date and warns if anyone tries to ship it.

    Modules

    • Inventory
  7. Receipts with no recorded inspection

Fruit or inputs are received after a glance, and when a rejection comes there is no record of how they arrived.

    How Odoo solves it

Odoo 20 Quality places a control point on the receipt operation, by product or by category and at the frequency that is set, and every inspection is recorded with its result.

    Modules

    • Quality
    • Inventory

Frequently asked questions

Does Odoo work for a packing house, or does it need a separate system?

Odoo 20 covers what a packing house shares with any company: purchasing, lot-tracked inventory, sales, exports, payroll and accounting.

Does Odoo stamp invoices with the external trade complement?

Yes. The advanced features module of the Mexican localization adds the external trade complement, currently version 2.0, with the tariff code, the customs unit of measure, the Incoterm and, where it applies, the certificate of origin. Odoo’s own documentation recommends confirming with an accountant that the operation needs it before installing it.

When is Agricore the right fit?

When the operation is agribusiness, exports or plans to export, and has to show traceability and efficiency with real data. We designed it for growers and packing houses with export crops, such as berries, avocado, citrus, greenhouses and vineyards, for cooperatives and associations that coordinate several growers, and for multi-farm operations that need to consolidate their data in a single view.

Where is Odoo hosted when it carries its own modules, like Agricore's?

Odoo Online does not accept custom modules or apps from the Odoo store, so an implementation with its own modules goes to Odoo.sh or to an on-premise server, on the Custom plan of Odoo Enterprise. Agricore deployments are hosted on CloudCore, Nivolty’s hosting, with the data in Mexico.

Does Odoo payroll compute the aguinaldo and the vacation premium?

Yes. Odoo 20’s Mexican payroll computes the aguinaldo, Mexico’s mandatory year-end bonus, vacations with their premium, the savings fund and vouchers, as well as IMSS contributions and INFONAVIT and FONACOT credits, and issues each payslip as a payroll CFDI.
