Odoo for e-commerce
In e-commerce the sale takes one click, and everything that comes after it, the invoice, the picking, the shipping label and the return, decides the margin.

An online store sells at any hour to customers who want their invoice without writing an email, their parcel tracked and their return settled within days. When the store sells in Mexico, that invoice is a CFDI, the electronic invoice that has to back every sale there. Odoo 20 puts the store, inventory, shipping and accounting in the same database, and the work starts by following an order from the click to the delivery, before the first product is configured.
What we solve in the operation
-
The invoice the customer requests by email
Every customer who needs an invoice emails their details after buying, and someone issues it by hand days later.
How Odoo solves it
In the Odoo 20 online store, checkout adds an invoicing step: customers who want an invoice enter their RFC (tax ID), their tax regime and the CFDI usage code, and those who do not are covered by a CFDI to the general public. With automatic invoicing enabled, the CFDI is stamped when the payment is processed, and the customer downloads the PDF from their portal.

Small orders picked one at a time
In peak season one- and two-item orders multiply, and the warehouse walks the same aisles again and again to pick them.
How Odoo solves it
Inventory groups orders so they are picked together: in batches, in waves or several orders at once on a single route. Barcode guides the picker and confirms each item with the scanner.

Shipping labels created in another portal
Every label is generated on the carrier's portal, the tracking number is copied by hand and the customer writes in to ask where the parcel is.
How Odoo solves it
Odoo 20 connects with Envia.com, DHL Express, FedEx and UPS. With Envia.com, the label is generated when the delivery is validated, charged to the Envia.com account, and tracking is visible to the customer in their portal.

The return nobody reconciles
A customer sends a product back, and restocking, the refund and the credit note are handled in three different places, if they are handled at all.
How Odoo solves it
The return is recorded from the original delivery, in Odoo 20 without going through a wizard, and the product goes back into stock; the credit note is issued from the invoice, and Odoo adds on its own the link to the original CFDI that the tax authority (SAT) requires.

The catalog that does not show up on Google Shopping
The products are in the store but not in Google Shopping ads, because nobody maintains the product feed for Google.
How Odoo solves it
The Odoo online store generates the product feed for Google Merchant Center, which powers Google Shopping, and uses each product's barcode as its GTIN.

The return that starts with an email
A customer who wants to send something back writes an email, and the case is put together by hand, with deadlines and reasons scattered around.
How Odoo solves it
In Odoo 20, the customer starts the return from their portal, within the number of days the store sets and with a reason.

The abandoned cart nobody follows up
Some customers fill the cart and leave, and nobody writes to them again.
How Odoo solves it
eCommerce sends an automatic reminder to whoever left their cart: by email and, in Odoo 20, also through WhatsApp.

The wholesaler who sees the consumer price
A wholesale customer enters the store and sees the retail price, or a separate site has to be built for them.
How Odoo solves it
Odoo 20 serves B2B and B2C on the same site: each customer sees their own pricelist, and each pricelist shows prices with or without taxes.

Selling what is out of stock
The store sells a product that has already run out, and the order ends up canceled with an unhappy customer.
How Odoo solves it
Each product defines whether it can be sold without stock, shows how many are left when stock drops below a threshold and says when it is sold out; in Odoo 20 it is also published or hidden automatically based on stock.

Frequently asked questions
Which carriers does Odoo connect with?
Odoo 20 has official connectors with Envia.com, DHL Express, FedEx and UPS, which cover shipments from Mexico. With the Envia.com connector, the label is generated when the delivery is validated and the customer follows the shipment from their portal.
Can the online store take payments through Mercado Pago?
Yes. Mercado Pago is among Odoo 20’s payment providers, and with automatic invoicing the CFDI is stamped when the payment is processed.
Do the store's customers count as Odoo users?
No. Odoo’s contract counts as a user every active internal account that is neither a light user nor a portal account, so customers who buy or log in to their portal are not counted.
Where should an Odoo online store be hosted?
It depends on the code it carries: Odoo Online does not accept custom modules or apps from the Odoo store, so a store with its own developments goes to Odoo.sh or to an on-premise server, on the Custom plan. The hosting guide compares the three options.
