PUE / PPD

PUE (Pago en una sola exhibición, payment in a single installment) and PPD (Pago en parcialidades o diferido, payment in installments or deferred) are the two payment-method codes of a CFDI, Mexico's electronic invoice: PUE applies when the invoice is paid as it is issued, and PPD when it is issued before it is settled, later in one payment or in installments.

Both codes come from the SAT’s c_MetodoPago catalog and go in the MetodoPago field of the CFDI. The SAT is Mexico’s tax administration, and its CFDI 4.0 filling guide, accessed October 17, 2026, sets what each code changes:

  • PUE: the invoice carries the code of the form in which payment was received, and no additional document with the payment complement is issued, because the invoice is already paid.
  • PPD: the form of payment is code 99, Por definir (to be defined), and each full or partial payment received later is backed by a CFDI carrying the payment complement.

The issuer picks the code when invoicing, based on when the transaction will be settled. The guide also covers the case in between: if the first installment is paid at the time of the transaction, the invoice is issued for the full amount and that installment is backed by a second document with the complement.

In Odoo 20, the invoice has a payment policy, and when nobody sets it, Odoo uses PUE if the due date falls within the current month and PPD if it falls in another month, as the Mexican localization guide details.
