REP (payment complement)
The REP (Recibo Electrónico de Pago, electronic payment receipt) is the CFDI carrying the payment receipt complement that is issued when a Mexican invoice is paid in installments or after it was issued, stating the amount received and identifying the invoice whose balance it settles.
The SAT, Mexico’s tax administration, calls it the Complemento para recepción de pagos (payment receipt complement), “also named Recibo Electrónico de Pago”. Its current version is 2.0: it took effect on January 1, 2022, and has been mandatory since April 1, 2023. According to the SAT’s page, accessed October 17, 2026, it must be issued for payments received in installments, whenever the price is not paid in a single installment, and when payment is made after the invoice was issued.
It is issued by whoever receives the payment, against an invoice whose payment method is PPD. The SAT’s filling guide for the complement sets three rules: the document carries a total of zero and no payment method or form of payment; it can cover a single payment or all the payments received in a month, as long as they come from the same recipient; and it is issued no later than the fifth calendar day of the month after the payment.
In Odoo 20, the payment is registered with its actual form of payment and, once it is reconciled with the stamped invoice, the Update Payments button sends the complement XML and shows it on the CFDI tab of both the invoice and the payment, as the Mexican localization guide details.
