Staging

Staging is the environment where changes are tested on a neutralized copy of the production database before they go live; on Odoo.sh, each staging branch creates that copy from the real data.

According to the Odoo 20.0 documentation, accessed October 17, 2026, staging branches on Odoo.sh are meant to test new features with production data without filling the live database with test records. The copy is neutralized: scheduled actions do not run, outgoing email is caught by a test mailbox instead of reaching contacts, in-app purchase services are disabled, and payment providers and shipping connectors switch to test mode.

The same page sets its limits. Staging databases are not backed up automatically, although manual backups are possible; they are deleted after one month, and unit tests do not run on them. Whatever is configured there does not reach production on its own: it is recorded to be repeated, or written into the branch’s modules. Outside Odoo.sh, every test database, such as a duplicate or a test backup, is also created neutralized, according to the neutralized database page.

When upgrading to Odoo 20 on Odoo.sh, the upgrade platform returns the converted database in a staging branch so it can be tested before production, as the Odoo 20 upgrade guide explains.
